Since we've had the car (We got information technology from a family friend who barely drove it), the machine has been idling high, merely information technology ever goes back to normal after driving information technology for a bit. Nevertheless, about a week agone, we went out to drive it and every couple of minutes it would just completely shut off. It's close off in the past, only afterward restarting it, it was fine. Last time, however, it must have close off over x times.

Does information technology demand basic maintenance, filters, plugs, etc.?
Does the throttle trunk and/or the idle air command valve demand cleaning?
You accept to make up one's mind what needs to be done based upon the prior maintenance records.

You are going to have to accept someone diagnose what'due south causing the problem.
The car needs spark, fuel, and air in lodge to operate.
Nosotros demand to know which of those is the problem.

When it shuts off, does information technology immediately restart? Or is it non starting for a few minutes up to 30 minutes?
If so, y'all might have someone use a spark tester, or an onetime spark plug continued to i of the spark plug
wires to see if there is spark during that time. The crankshaft position sensors gave trouble on 3800s subsequently some age. Yours has age and not a lot of miles or run time. But historic period may have reduced the magnetic field strength and the crankshaft position sensor is declining to trigger the spark module.

Does it shut off like it's being slowly shut downwardly like it's non getting fuel from a stopped upward pocketbook filter on the fuel pump from gunk in the tank? or a fuel pump that's slowly dying? Or does information technology shut off quickly like the key has been turned off?

If information technology will shut off while idling, that would exist great for a quality mechanic to put information technology in his shop and let information technology idle until information technology dies. Sometimes these problems fix themselves before the car can get to the mechanic store.

The figurer code organisation on these cars is not as helpful as the ones from 1995 or 1996 on.

Has the check engine calorie-free come on at all when this dying happens?

The fast idle is not something I can see unless y'all take a bad slice of rubber vacuum hose
that has cracked with age or rut and letting air into the intake. Could be a temperature sensor that
isn't giving the right reading and then the engine is running faster and giving a richer mixture if information technology thinks the engine is colder than information technology is, for instance.

Good luck.

Since we've had the motorcar (We got information technology from a family friend who barely drove it), the car has been idling high, merely it e'er goes back to normal after driving it for a bit. However, almost a calendar week ago, nosotros went out to drive information technology and every couple of minutes it would just completely close off. Could be tps, of course it could exist many things. Exercise u small gas? If so, fuel pressure regulators are known for that...

my number i would be the Ignition Command Module nether coils just had this happen final calendar week to a customers automobile and since nosotros had a spare laying around that had been pulled from her motorcar when the engine swap was performed she runs a mail route and it had close off 6 times that solar day but mostly would start correct back up We swapped them out and all is good once more

Yup. A expert possibility but expensive just to guess. Probably should get it checked out for certain.
